Review: Maybelline BB Cream Sheer Tint 8 in 1 Skin Perfector

I picked up some Maybelline BB Cream.  If you read my blog regularly or watch me on Youtube you know that I’m interested in BB creams.  I’m also a Maybelline fan so of course I was excited to try this.

They had a tester in the store so I was able to pick my shade easily.  I really appreciate a tester, don’t you?  I got the shade light/medium.  I’m an NC 20, if that helps.  The next time I may get the light shade though.  Its such a sheer color that it really doesn’t matter all that much.

Here is what Maybelline says about it:

“Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream Sheer Tint 8-In-1 Skin Perfector is the one-step wonder for good skin everyday. Get eight skin benefits in one simple step: blurs imperfections, brightens, evens skin tone, smoothes, hydrates, enhances and protects with SPF 30.”

This is a good basic moisturizer. Its oil free and gives sheer coverage.  It’s also got an SPF 30, which I appreciate.  It blurs imperfections as much as any other tinted moisturizer.  It evens the skin tone some, but if you have anything that you need to cover, you will need concealer.  If your skin is really uneven you will still need foundation.  It  brightens your face as much as any other tinted moisturizer does.  This is not a miracle product, by any stretch of the imagination, but I will still repurchase it as a basic moisturizer because I like it for that purpose.

I don’t believe this cream rises to the level of a traditional Asian BB cream. Its not going to permanently lighten your skin or treat it beyond what a basic moisturizer would.  It is oil free and does not make my skin as oily as the Garnier BB cream does.  I think this is a better choice for people with oily skin.

It retails for around $8.  You can get it at drugstores.  The price will vary slightly depending on where you buy it.

I hope you found this review helpful!

The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer Review

I have been wanting to try The Balm’s famous Mary-Lou Manizer for well….forever.  They don’t carry The Balm at my Sephora or any other stores in my area as far as I know.  I lucked into an overstock purchase at Marshalls though, and was able to get it in a kit with some other things for $9.99.  What a deal!  It pays to check Marshalls and TJ Maxx once in a while.  You never know what you might find.

Back to the highlighter/illuminator.  The short of it is that I love Mary-Lou Manizer.  First off, the packaging is the cutest thing I have ever seen.  The Balm has the BEST packaging of any company, in my opinion.  Anyway, it has a girl with her mugshot on the front.  You open the compact up and it has a generous mirror.  The highlighter itself is gorgeous.  It is an intense highlighter so if you are skiddish about that, then this might not be the product for you.  If you want to shine, this is for you!  Shine on girl!! Its such a pretty, intense shimmer:)  You can use it on your cheeks, cupid’s bow, nose and eyes. Its color is white gold with a hint of beige.

It retails for $24 for .3oz and is oil and paraben free.

Although Sephora sells some The Balm products, this one is not among their offerings.  I don’t know why, but when I looked it was not on the site:(  You can get Mary-Lou Manizer from beauty.com, nordstrom.com and thebalm.com .

Review: Loreal Infallible 24 Hour Lacquer Liner

Good news, Loreal has a great new formula in their new gel eyeliner.  I picked up one of the new Loreal Infallible 24 hour Lacquer Liners to give it a test drive.  I had high expectations and was not disappointed.

This is what Loreal says about them:

“L’Oreal Infallible Lacquer Liner 24H for eye design that is simply sophisticated. 24 hours of flawless, fade-free color with a unique lacquered finish. Mistake-proof application plus the ability to customize your line with a smooth-gliding brush. Ophthalmologist tested. Suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. ”

These gel liners do have some shine, but if you don’t like that you can always put a matte shadow of the same color over them. They last all day without budging or fading.  We will never know if they last 24 hours because I don’t leave my makeup on for 24 hours, not even in the interest of science.  LOL  It comes with a brush that is okay.  Its not my favorite, but I don’t hate it.  It doesn’t come to a fine tip, so its a little “different”.  Its not mistake proof, no gel eyeliner is.  I’m not sure why Loreal says that the liner is mistake proof.  Perhaps its because they never met me.  I made a mistake with the brush on my first attempt trying to figure out how best to use it.  The formula glides on smoothly and is very pigmented.  It did not bother my sensitive eyes.

I’ll pick these up in the future instead of the Mac Fluidlines and Bobbie Brown gel eyeliners because I believe they preform just as well.  Of course, if Mac or Bobbie Brown have a cool color I’ll pick that up too, but for the basic black, brown  bronze, etc, Loreal has my vote.

The Laquer Liner retails for $9.99 at Ulta. It comes with the eyeliner brush.  You can also get them at any drugstore, but the price may vary, as is the way with drugstore items.  Different drugstores charge different amounts.

So have you tried these?  I’d love to hear your view on them!

Review: YSL Golden Glosses

I’m starting my journey into the YSL brand. I first started off with the lipstain (review to come.. short and sweet of it is that I like them:)  I also picked up two of the Golden Glosses to try.

Here is what YSL says about them:

“Worth its weight in gold, this gorgeous gloss dresses lips in a sophisticated, high-shine shimmer that’s truly precious. Sparkling 24 carat gold flecks (0.2%) create a mirror-like effect for guaranteed glamour, while a complex of nourishing oils protect and hydrate for optimal comfort. Scented with a subtle hint of Mango that’s utterly irresistible.”

The glosses are beautiful to look at.  They are not sticky and they shine like no bodies business!  They have decent staying power too.  If they had a different smell and taste I would be in super love.  Sadly, they are a mango, watermelon with a hint of number 2 pencil lead flavor:(  I hate the smell and taste.  Why do we need everything to have a taste?  Despite YSL’s claim, I can resist! I don’t get it.  The worst part is that these glosses have such a strong flavor and scent that it changes the taste of your food if you eat with them on.  Yucky Poo!

If I could stand the scent I would purchase them again, but sadly, I just don’t like it.  I can’t deal!  I’m going to wear the two I have, but no more, not unless they change the scent.  Hint Hint to YSL if you are reading this, I will buy a ton of these babies if you will change the scent, please!!!

These glosses retail for $30.  I got mine at Sephora and Nordstrom.  You can also get them at sephora.com, nordstrom.com, yslbeautyus.com and anywhere YSL is sold.

Review: Too Faced Candelight Glow Highlighter/Illuminator

I’m always excited to see what Too Faced is going to release next.  I was not disappointed this season.  They released a lot of fun things, but my favorite of the bunch was the new Candelight Glow highlighter.  What can I say? I love it!

As you would expect from Too Faced, the packaging is just too cute. It has a chandelier on it and they have also embossed a chandelier on the product to match. How cute!

The product is actually two different highlighters. One is a white gold and the other is a pale pink.  They both give you a beautiful luminescent glow. They have just the right amount of shimmer, but no chunky glitter.  Yea!  You can use them separately or mix them if you like.  They both look beautiful on the cheek bones, nose, cupid’s bow and eyes.  To sweeten the deal you are getting both of these highlighters for $29.  That is a good value for two high end highlighters.  You are usually looking at paying around $30 for just one highlighter shade.

You can purchase this product at www.toofaced.com, sephora and sephora.com, ulta and ulta.com and anywhere Too Faced products are sold.

Ok, so here is what I got from Mac’s Heavenly Creatures collection for fall 2012.  This is their mineral collection.  I was a little disappointed with the eyeshadows except for Magnetic Attraction which will make it into my July favorites.  Did you pick anything up?  I’d love to hear:)

Mac Heavenly Creatures Haul and Swatches

Mac has launches their Fall 2012 mineral collection, Heavenly Creatures.  It seems a little early for fall collections, especially given the heat wave we have been under,  but alas, here it is.  Get ready for fall.

I picked up a few things from the collection including eyeshadows, a blush, a mineralized skin finish, lipstick and lipglasses.  Its a large collection so my haul was small when compared to the offerings.

I got four eyeshadows, but I was disappointed in two of them.  Sky, the blue shadow, fell a little flat in my opinion.  Also, Universal Appeal was a disappointment.  I was expecting more purple, but when swatched its just brown:(  That’s the problem with mineralized eyeshadows.  They look beautiful in the pan, but sometimes they don’t swatch well.    Magnetic Attraction is beautiful in the pan and swatched.  Aurora is a brown, but you can still pick up a hint of the peach undertones.  Its a pretty shadow as well, especially when used wet.

They are offering four Mineralized Skin Finishes. I picked up the one in Light Year.  Its a pretty peachy pink with gold micro glitter.  Unfortunately I had an allergic reaction to it. For those of you who can use it, it is very pretty.  This one did accentuate  pores on my cheeks.

I picked up one of the blushes, Ring of Saturn.  Its a pretty red color that gives you a bit of a sunburned look.

I also picked up 2 lipsticks, Cut the Caper and Fire Sign.  Cut the Caper is a repromote.  Its an orangy coral.  It has a luster finish.

Fire Sign is a beautiful pinky red.  It has lustre finish.

To go with Cut the Caper lipstick, I picked up Meteoric Cremesheen Glass.  Its a pretty coral lipgloss with orange shimmer.  Like all Cremesheen Glasses, it is sticky.

I also picked up Galaxy Rose Cremesheen Glass to go with Fire Sign lipstick.  Its a beautiful pinky red.  It is sticky as well.

So that is it for my Mac Heavenly Creatures haul. Did you pick up anything?
