Review: Lush Snake Oil Scalp Treatment

I like a lot of Lush products, but their Snake Oil Scalp Treatment is not on my “happy list”. I don’t like it at all.

Snake Oil is used to treat dandruff, dry scalp and sore, irritated heads. It is made up of Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Alkanett Extract (Alkanna tinctoria), Peppermint Oil, (Lavandula hybrida), Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea Tree Oil) , Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool and Fragrance.

Its got a weird scent, but I can deal with it. Its super oily, as you would expect considering the name, and you will have to use a clarifying shampoo to get it out. I suggest you shampoo more than once with the clarifier. Its really hard to get out of your hair.

I tried to rub the bar between my hands to warm it up as per Lush’s instructions, but not enough product came off on my hands to get it onto my scalp thoroughly. Then I microwaved some slivers that I cut off of the bar in hopes of being able to work with a melted form of the product better than with the solid form. Again, I was disappointed. My roots soaked up the oil like a sponge and little seemed to make it onto my actual scalp. As for what did make it onto my scalp, I noticed nothing. I though, “well, just because I can’t feel it working doesn’t necessarily mean its no working”. After I washed my hair I still noticed no difference. The same was true the next day. I’m sad to say that I honestly noticed no effects, good or bad, from the Snake Oil. My scalp was the same, before and after. I do want to disclose that it was such a hard product to work with that I only used it once.

A 1.9oz bar of Snake Oil retails for $8.95.

Review: Lush Hair Doctor: Hair and Scalp Mask

I went to Lush to try to find something to cure my scalp. Its usually pretty calm with the occasional flare up of mild acne when the summer heat kicks in. My dermatologist recommended that I use T-gel every other wash to fix the acne problem. I thought that since I wash my hair every other day I should use the T-gel every time. Wrong! I created an itchy, flaky scalp that has been driving me crazier than a loon, although I must admit it is acne free. Continue reading Review: Lush Hair Doctor: Hair and Scalp Mask
