L’Oreal has really shocked me, in a good way, with one of their new releases. Its the L’Oreal Color Caresse Wet Shine Stain. I was at Ulta and was very intrigued when I saw the new display. I grabbed 2 colors to give it a try.
When I got to the car I noticed 2 things. The first thing I noticed was that the applicator was virtually the same as the YSL Glossy Stains. The second thing I noticed was that they smelled virtually the same too.
I don’t know if you know it or not, but L’Oreal actually owns YSL. After giving this product a go I can tell you that I wouldn’t be shocked if they were run off the same line. They perform and smell exactly the same. I say “Woo Hoo!!!!” because the YSL stains are $32 and the L”Oreal ones are around $10, depending upon where you buy them.
I got two of the more pigmented glosses. I picked up Rose on Rose, which is a pretty, neutral pink and Endless Red which is a very pretty blue based red.
L’Oreal claims that the stains give you 6 hours of continuous hydration with a barely there non-sticky feel. The stains feel velvety and light on the lips, not sticky or tacky when applied. They continue to have a good shine for 2 and a half to 3 hours. After that amount of time the shine starts to fade, but the color is still there. At four hours you are pretty much out of shine, but still have a pretty, light stained color. My lips felt a little tackier at the four hour point. I did eat after having the product on my lips for 2 hours and I drank soda periodically throughout the test. I would like to note that I was careful when I ate in that I did not have to wipe my mouth with a napkin. My guess is that if you do have to use a napkin, your shine will be gone, but you will still have a pretty stain. The product does transfer onto glasses.
I love this product! Unless there is a very unique color I have bought my last YSL Glossy Stain. I love them, but not the price and I can’t tell the difference between the two!! If you would like to see my review of the YSL stain you can read it here
