ELF Warm Eyeshadow Palette Summer 2012

ELF has come out with some great palettes for Spring 2012. I picked up the Elf Studio 32 Piece Warm Eyeshadow Palette and I’m really impressed with the quality, especially when compared with previous palettes I have purchased.

Traditionally, ELF palettes are hit or miss, some great colors and some not so great. This palette overall is a good palette. It has 32 warm toned shades, mostly matte, but there are a few satin and shimmer shades as well. Most of the colors are creamy, pigmented and blend well. A couple of shades did give me problems though, specifically some of the darker shades. A few of the matte shades are chalky.

The first shade of the second row (matte peachy white) and the 4th color on the 2nd row (soft pink) are chalky, but blend out okay. The 6th color on the second row (pinky purple shade) was streaky and hard to blend. The third row, 4th shade (matte peach color) was chalky and hard to blend. The The remaining shades on row 3, numbers 5-8 were streaky and hard to blend. The 5th line, 5th shade (yellow) was poorly pigmented.

I only had issues with 9 out of the 32 shades, the rest were pigmented and blended well. The remaining nine are still workable, although you may have to do a little more blending and color building.

For $5 I think this is a great deal. Its a good way to get a bunch of spring and summer colors at a great price. The packaging is okay, but I can’t complain at this price point. Its plastic, and it has a white label on the front. The packaging flips open and you get a mirror and sponge tip applicator. The package weighs 1.10oz/32g

You can get this in stores at Target and also online at eyeslipsface.com or wherever ELF products are sold. Sometimes I can find them at Kmart.

So did you pick up any of ELF’s spring offerings? Do tell!!

Rant: Urban Decay 3/27/12 “Big News” of “Build Your Own Palette”

Like many of you I was waiting for Urban Decay to release their “big news” and  fulfill their promise to “Blow Your Mind”.  My mind was indeed blown as I couldn’t believe the announcement after they made it.

I was expecting a new release, and in a way, I guess that is what I got.  Urban Decay will be reformulating their eyeshadows and releasing them in new packaging.  The packaging will allow you to depot and repot your eyeshadow at will. They call this “Build Your Own Palette” system. The price of these shadows will go from $17 to $18.They will also be selling a six pan palette to put your shadows in which will also run $18.  Sounds great, right?  I’m not so sure!

Inglot already has a “freedom system” where they sell you individual shadows and palettes to put them in.  They have a  very good model.  Their shadows are great and only cost $5 to $7 each which makes putting your palette together fun!.  Urban Decay, on the other hand, will still expect you to pay $18 per shadow to put in your palette.  You might be thinking, I’ll put them in my Z palette.  Well, if that is the plan, get your magnets out.  Urban Decay’s new shadows will not  be magnetized.  Nice!

The Naked Palettes provide 12 full sized shadows for $50.  If you purchased those same full sized shadows to fill your new Urban Decay palette, it would run you $216 plus the cost of 2 palettes at $18 per palette to put them in.  Of course you can buy the individual shades and keep them in their container.  There will be no “palette deal” here.  You will be paying full price plus some if you get the palette to put your shadows in.  To be fair you will receive one shadow with each $18 palette along with a travel size Good Karma brush.  The included shadow is a neutral shade and you will get the same shade in each and every palette you purchase.

All of this being said and despite the fact that I’m not happy about this change, I do need to disclose to you that I am an Urban Decay Junkie. I’m still going to buy their products, they are high quality and I love them. If I didn’t this would be enough to turn me off, but unfortunately I’m addicted to the brand, that’s a fact!

So what do you think about Urban Decay’s new idea??  I’d love to know!

INGLOT -DIY Eyeshadow Palette (Review of Shadows and Experience)

What fun!  I loved going to the Inglot boutique in The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas to create my Inglot Palette.  You walk into the store and there is so much to choose from.  They have everything from eyelashes, lipsticks, concealers, blushes and of course eyeshadow.

I was after the eyeshadow so that is what I picked up.  After doing a lot of research and looking at what other people had gotten, I felt ready enough to conquer the massive amount of eyeshadow choices and narrow it down to just 10 eyeshadows.  I did cheat a little by getting three rainbow colors.  The rainbow colors have three separate shades in them, but that still counts as one, right????

Ok, so you go in and they hand you a magnetic board.  You pick up the eyeshadows that you want and place them on the board.  When you have chosen the ones you want you take them to the counter, they get new eyeshadows out for you and return the used ones to the store display.  You purchase the palette and your individual shadows and you are off to put your palette together…..at home.  They were not helping anyone put their eyeshadows in their palettes at the store where I was shopping.  However, it was super easy to do, you just take them out of their packaging and pop them into the palette.  Easy as pie:)

Now, a 10 shadow palette is going to run you around $75.  You pay around $15 for the palette and around $5 for each eyeshadow, with the exception of the rainbow shadows which run around $7 each.  You can find these stores in New York and Las Vegas, but if you can’t make it to one of these awesome cities, fret not!  You can order online at inglotcosmetics.com  🙂 Check out the swatches below!

Here are the colors I picked and their photos:
Matte 352: (pale peach)

111R: (pale peach, peaches and cream color, true peach)

Pearl 99: (shimmery dusty lilac)

D.S. 460: (deep taupe with gold shimmer)

Pearl 402: (light taupe with a gold sheen)

117R: (shades of greyish  brown)

107R (shades of warm and neutral brown)

AMC Shine 37 (warm brown with gold shimmer)

Pearl 421 (brownish copper with golden sheen)

Matte 326 (darkened brown with red undertones)

Victoria’s Secret Limited Edition Deluxe Eyeshadow Palette in Fearless

I picked up the limited edition Victoria’s Secret Deluxe Eyeshadow Palette in Fearless. Its soooo pretty. Its a blue based palette. It has a pretty shimmering champagne color, a shimmering greyish taupey color, a matte teal color, a shimmering blue color and a blackened navy eyeliner.

I love all of the eyeshadows. They blend like a dream and they are gorgeous, if you like shimmering eyeshadows, that is. I like a little shimmer in my life so I’m pretty happy with them. Some people might prefer a matte highlighter shade, but I’m sure you have one in your collection that would work perfectly with this palette. The matte teal shade is a little fussy, but not too bad. All mattes seem to have some blendability issues and I don’t find this one to be any more troublesome to deal with than any other mattes in my collection.

I do not like the eyeliner. It’s consistency is somewhere between a dried out gel liner and a powder. That is the best way I know of to describe it. It is a dull black color and the staying power is very poor, even with a primer.

Even though the eyeliner is a dud, I like the other shades enough to make this palette worth the purchase. You can get it in the store or online at victoriassecret.com . It retails for $20.

I purchased all of these items myself and was not paid to review or mention them.

Laura Mercier Eye and Cheek Palette

Laura Mercier has released a new Eye and Cheek Palette for Spring of 2012. This is a limited edition product and a Sephora exclusive.  It includes six eye shadows and two blushes.  For $60 its a really good deal.  I’m in love!

The blushes are beautiful and the eye shadows are too.  They blend well. The right side of the palette is more purple based, while the left side is more neutral. The eyes shadows include matte and shimmer finishes.

The eye shadow shades are in  Buff Pearl, Tawny Apricot, Rich Cocoa, Pale Pink, African Violet and Black Plum. The cheek colors included are Rose Desire and Fresh Peach.

Are you planning on getting this palette.  Let me know!

Stila “In The Garden” Palette

Stila has released two palettes for Spring 2012. My favorite is “In The Garden”. It comes in a pretty light green palette. When you look at the colors, the first thing that goes through your mind is “green”. Its a happy palette:) It comes with a smudge stick in Starfish. Its such a pretty eyeliner! Swatches are in the video. This is one of my favorite Spring offerings from any brand!

LANCOME HAUL (AND GIFT) :Roseraie Des Delices SPRING 2012

Lancome has released their new Spring 2012 collection: Roseraie Des Delices!!  I hauled two items from the collection, and an eyeshadow palette that is permanant.  The gift was awesome.  Check it out!!

I’m loving Sweet Marmalade Enhancing Lipcolor Lipstick, which is a beautiful coral color. I also love the coordinating Color Fever Gloss in Tangerine Petal. I have been looking for the Coral Crush eyeshadow palette for quite a while so I was thrilled when my local counter got it and didn’t sell it out before I was able to get one. Even though its not part of the Spring collection I had to snatch it up!! Love it! What did you get from the collection??
